The European Union will be United or will not do. On Saturday, March 25, said the head of the European Council Donald Tusk, speaking in the Italian capital at the opening of the EU summit on the occasion of the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, reports Reuters.
“United Europe is not a model of bureaucracy. This is a set of common values and democratic standards,” he said.
He also added that now is not the time to protest or to “protect Europe “different speeds””, notes TASS.
The idea of a Europe of “different speeds” lies in the possibility of coexistence within the EU of States which are in varying degrees integrated into the community. This concept is shared by Germany, Italy, France and Spain, however, it causes dissatisfaction among a number of countries in Eastern Europe.
This anniversary summit is taking place without the participation of the UK. 23 Jun 2016, more than half of Britons voted for the country’s withdrawal from the EU.
