Russia and the United States signed a joint statement on cooperation in the Arctic

WASHINGTON, Mar 25 — RIA Novosti. Eight Arctic countries, including Russia and the United States, signed in Boston a joint statement on cooperation in case of emergencies and joint operations in the Arctic region, reported the press service of the US coast guard.

The document was signed following the meeting in Boston of the 8th regional conference with the participation of eight Arctic countries: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the United States. At the conference, Russia was presented by the Deputy head of the Border service of the FSB, Vice Admiral Gennady Medvedev, head of the Department of the Coast guard.

As reported by the U.S. coast guard, the joint statement “sets forth the basic principles, tactics, rules and protocols for the exchange of information in case of emergency response at sea and joint operations in the Arctic.”

Following the meeting also held a Grand ceremony, during which the USA gave Finland the chairmanship of this forum.
