Moscow. March 25. INTERFAX.RU Iraqi rescuers on Friday pulled dozens of bodies from the ruins of a building in Mosul, where residents say that as a result of coalition air strikes under the leadership of the United States a week ago killed 137 people. If confirmed, this number will be the biggest loss among the civilian population in one incident during a 2.5-year-old air campaign coalition, writes The Washington Post.
Brigadier General Mohammed Mahmoud, head of civil defense of Mosul, said that families had gathered in the building, because it was one of the few houses with a basement. Over the past two days his team recovered the bodies of 61 people, including two babies. But he said he expects that dozens of bodies are discovered in the continuation of the excavations, and the rescuers until they reached the basement or other destroyed rooms.
In a statement, the coalition under the leadership of the United States stated that it had received several “controversial statements” about the fact that it struck in the area in the period from 17 to 23 March and that she is investigating these reports. He added that this process “takes time” — especially when it comes to the date of the alleged strike.
