Crimea today is an integral part of Russia, and the main merit in it belongs to the residents who expressed their decision in a referendum on 16 March 2014. This was stated by the Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin opened in the lower house of Parliament photo exhibition “Crimean spring”.
“What is now the Crimea is part of Russia, it’s very good, that’s great, and most importantly, the people made their choice because one history, one country had been divided unfairly,” said the speaker.
“People were waiting for it, and that expectation culminated in the referendum”, – said Volodin, thanking the deputies of the state Duma of the Crimea Natalia Polonskaya and Ruslan Balbec for active participation in the events of March 2014. “Let’s tell them thank you,” he called.
“All people who live in Crimea voted for reunification with Russia. It was their choice, the choice of 93% of inhabitants of Crimea, Sevastopol, people who make this decision just suffered,” continued the politician. He recalled that it “was a difficult decision: when they pressured, insulted them, killed them, they made this decision, appealed to Russia to join”. “Today they are part of Russia, we are one people, we are together today,” – said Volodin.
History of Crimea in photos
At the photo exhibition, organized in the state Duma, presents photographs from the archives of the news Agency TASS that illustrate important socio-political and cultural events in the Crimea. The pictures cover the period from the late nineteenth century to the present day, you can also see reproductions of works of art depicting key moments in the history of the Peninsula of the XVIII-XIX centuries.
In addition, the exhibition displays the official documents signed and adopted in connection with the reunification of the Crimea with Russia in 2014, media reports about the event.
“This exhibition shows the history of the Crimea, which began long before today. We can see how it is interesting”, – said Volodin their impressions about the exhibition with journalists. “Based on the history of Crimea, we see how Russia defended the territory at all times, how many people died for these areas, as developed in the Crimea, Sevastopol”, – noted he.
The speaker stressed that “the protagonist is the people.” “The history of Crimea is huge, is the story of our people, so when we speak about Crimea, it is necessary to speak about the huge role those who today returned to Crimea, and Crimea returned today our nation, which was divided and the heroes are the people who fought, waited and in the referendum said their word,” said he.
