Russian inspectors will determine the extent of notified military activities in Norway, the head of the Russian Center for reducing nuclear danger Sergey Ryzhkov.
According to him, the specialists will inspect the area of about 18 thousand square kilometers (about 5% of the country).
“From 13 to 17 March 2017 in the framework of the Vienna document 2011 on confidence-building measures and security, the Russian team of inspectors plans to conduct an inspection of the specified area on the territory of Norway”, — he said.
Ryzhkov added that Russian inspectors will visit training areas and ranges, and will also participate in briefings command units and formations of Norway.
The pan-European security architecture includes several agreements on disarmament, arms control and confidence-building measures in the military field. In particular, the Vienna document 2011 provides for a broad exchange of information on armed forces, defense planning and military budgets. OSCE countries also notify each other about certain types of military activities, inviting observers and carry out inspections.
