Incorrect policy of some European countries towards Syria and countries in the Middle East led to the spread in the region of terrorism. This opinion was expressed by the President of the Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad at a meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament, which took place in Damascus on Sunday, 12 March, reports news Agency Sana.
“The policy of European countries, including in the conduct of economic sanctions against Damascus, has led to what we see today: the spread of terrorism and the influx of large numbers of refugees in these countries,” — said Assad.
In addition, the Syrian President said that the representatives of the Western public have lost confidence in the media that cover the Syrian crisis, because they incorrectly presented information. This, according to him, contributed to the increase in visits to Damascus by European parliamentarians. “MEPs want intend to study the situation and provide the true picture of their peoples,” Assad added.
The members of the delegation, in turn, expressed readiness to continue the return of diplomatic relations between the EU and Syria.
March 11, the Syrian leader described Russia as the only real force fighting against the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). He also added that he does not see opportunities for practical cooperation in this area with the administration of U.S. President Donald trump. Assad said that the raids by the United States against ISIS “took place without cooperation or consultation with the Syrian army or the Syrian government illegally”.
The opposition of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and rebels seeking his overthrow, has been running since 2011. The conflict escalated into full-scale civil war, which strengthened the terrorist organization, including banned in Russia as extremist grouping “Islamic state”.
