The Russian Orthodox Church will begin to remember the Baptist Church of Ireland, St. Patrick, and more than a dozen saints of Western Europe. About it RIA Novosti said the head of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Vladimir Legoyda.
According to him, the Synod has included in the calendar of those who have been canonized prior to 1054, when the Great schism — the division of the Church into Western and Eastern.
The formation of the list of saints was carried out on the basis of information about their worship of the Orthodox in Western European dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church, and also on the basis of the tradition of their veneration in other local Orthodox churches. Also considered the lack of mention of the Holy name in polemical writings against the Eastern Church and the Eastern rite.
In total in a calendar included the names of more than a dozen saints who labored in Western countries.
