The UN security Council called on the parties to the Syrian conflict to continue negotiations in a constructive manner and without preconditions. As reported by RIA Novosti, stated in the text of the statement adopted by the Council.
SB acknowledged that the continuation of political negotiations became possible due to progress in Astana the agreement on a cease-fire.
Members of the security Council reaffirmed its commitment to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria. They stressed that the only long-term solution to the conflict will be an inclusive political process led by Syrians themselves.
SB also welcomed the conclusion of the March 3 round of inter-Syrian talks in Geneva.
The security Council urged the International Syria support group (ISSG) to use his influence to “to contribute to the cessation of violations of the ceasefire, reduction of violence and building trust”, and to ensure access of humanitarian assistance of the United Nations.
The first talks between the delegations of the armed opposition and the Syrian government under the mediation of Russia and Turkey were held on January 23-24 in Astana. The Russian delegation handed over to representatives of the armed Syrian opposition proposals for amendments to the Constitution of the SAR. Moscow, Tehran and Ankara agreed to establish a tripartite mechanism for monitoring observance of the truce in Syria.
