In the Council of Europe called on Russia to abide by ECHR ruling on Yukos

Moscow. March 10. INTERFAX.RU — the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe expressed concern over failure by Russia of decisions of the Strasbourg court of July 31, 2014 at the “Yukos affair”, said the Committee’s decision, released on Friday.

“(Members of the Committee — if) is deeply concerned about the fact that Russia does not comply with the verdict dated 31 July 2014”, — stated in the document.

While in Strasbourg, stressed that “Russia has made commitments on the implementation of article 46 of the European Convention on human rights (“Binding force and execution of judgments” — if) and execution of decisions of the ECHR”.

31 Jul 2014 it became known that the ECHR ordered Russia to pay former shareholders of “YUKOS Oil company” of compensation in the amount of 1.86 billion euros. In addition, the court ordered Russia to pay former shareholders of Yukos 300 thousand euros in compensation for legal costs.

In turn, the constitutional court declared 19 January 2017 unenforceable the decision of the ECHR. The court added that Russia is entitled on the basis of goodwill, to make certain payments to the former shareholders of Yukos who have suffered from illegal actions of its management, due to the newly identified assets.
