The Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada has accused Moscow of slander against her grandfather
MOSCOW, 9 Mar — RIA Novosti. The Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada Chrystia Freeland has accused Moscow of spreading false information about what her grandfather Mikhail Hamster collaborated with the Nazis during the Second world war, writes The Washington Post.
Earlier in mass media appeared information that in the 1940-ies Hamster led the Ukrainian-language newspaper in Krakow during the occupation. Edition published propaganda of the Nazis. After the war, the Hamster immigrated to the canadian province of Alberta, where he became a prominent member of the Ukrainian community.
Freeland has not denied these reports, however, tried to link messages about the past of his grandfather with the so-called Russian campaign of misinformation, the article says.
“It’s not a secret. The American government and even Angela Merkel earlier said that from the Russian side there were attempts to destabilize the Western democracies. I think no one would be surprised if these attempts directed against Canada,” said the Minister.
According to The Washington Post, information about the relative of the foreign Minister of Canada was distributing “Pro sites”. Press Secretary of the Russian Embassy in Ottawa Kirill Kalinin, commenting on the situation, said that he could not confirm or refute the information about the relative Freeland. He stressed that Nazism and its followers is worthy of unequivocal condemnation.
Earlier in an interview with the canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail Kalinin noticed that Freeland on any of its press conferences and did not answer directly to the question, what exactly did her grandfather in Krakow during the Second world war. He also added that the Russian authorities have nothing to do with the publications about the Hamster.
