The world’s first woman-cosmonaut, Deputy of the state Duma, Valentina Tereshkova, invited his colleagues in the lower house of Parliament to join the cosmonaut corps. It is reported TASS on Monday, March 6.
“I hope [the speaker] Mr Volodin [Volodin], which can be one of the deputies will come to us in the cosmonaut detachment,” said Tereshkova at the opening of the state Duma of the exhibition “the Seagull. First flight” timed to its anniversary.
The head of fraction of LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky proposed the candidacy of the Chairman of the Duma Committee on physical culture and sport Mikhail Degtyarev, adding that he is ready to go sailing. “With you though on Mars,” — said the leader of the liberal Democrats to the proposal of the celebrant.
Earlier on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Tereshkova with the 80-year anniversary. He handed her two presents, alluding to the Callsign Tereshkova — Seagull sculpture “the Seagull sits on the water,” performed by Julian Rukavishnikov, and the film “Seagulls over the river” artist Vitaly Zaitsev.
On February 22 it became known that Tereshkova may be invited to an audience with the Queen of great Britain Elizabeth II.
