Russia has paid a contribution to the UN budget in the amount of $78 million
UN 7 Mar. /Offset. TASS Oleg Zelenin/. Russia on Monday transferred $78 million in annual contribution to the regular budget of the UN. This was announced by the permanent mission of the Russian Federation at the world organization.
“March 6, 2017 Russian Federation transferred the amount of $ 888 309 77 U.S. dollars as payment accrued on Russia’s contribution to the regular budget of the UN,” — said in a statement on the official website of the Embassy.
Contributions to the UN budget (us$5.4 million for the 2016-2017 fiscal years) is determined based on the average of the country’s GDP over a 10-year period, given income per capita and external debt. Currently the largest sponsor of the United Nations are the USA, which cover 22% of the expenses of the organization. The share of Russia in the budget is about 2.5%.
According to information on the official website of the United Nations, contributions from 2017 to date, contributed more than 50 countries. The largest amount — nearly $200 million — has made China, the lowest — Djibouti, the Marshall and Solomon Islands ($25 thousand each).
States that do not make proper contributions to the budget of the world organization for two years, deprived of the vote in the UN General Assembly. In February in such a situation were Venezuela, Libya, Sudan and three other countries.
