Russian schoolchildren for the first time will analyze data from the Large hadron Collider
The first Russian venue for the master class will be a laboratory of physics of super-high energies St. Petersburg state University.
ST. PETERSBURG, March 6. /Offset. TASS Natalia Mikhalchenko/. Master-class on data processing obtained in experiments at the Large hadron Collider for the first time on Monday will hold for the Russian school scientists from St. Petersburg state University (SPbSU). This was announced to journalists in a press-service of the University.
“The first Russian venue for the master class will be a laboratory of physics of super-high energies St. Petersburg state University. To acquaint children with the physics of particles will be the head of the laboratory Grigory Feofilov and researchers Vladimir Kovalenko and Igor Altsybeev. In the first master class will take part the team of students of the Academic gymnasium of SPbSU (Saint-Petersburg), Lyceum No. 30 (St. Petersburg) and gymnasium No. 625 (Moscow)”, — reported in a press-service.
Students will find an introduction to high-energy physics and practical study of the yield of strange and multistrange particles by using real data of the ALICE experiment (special experiment to study matter under the extreme condition corresponding to the early Universe).
At the end of the day, young physicists will participate in a video conference and will discuss the results with scientists and peers from different countries
Master class held for several years, this year it will be attended by 200 universities and research centres from 52 countries and about 13 thousand students.
For the first master class for Russian students 17 and 27 March will be followed by others, which will be held in Saint-Petersburg and Moscow respectively. They will attend the School of data analysis Yandex and Higher school of Economics.
“I hope the participation of our students in international master-classes will become traditional and we will be able to captivate the physics of the particles of the guys from different cities of Russia,” said Grigory Feofilov.
