In the Chechen village of Ulus-Kert, a solemn opening ceremony of the monument erected in memory of soldiers of the 6th company, 76th guards airborne division (“Pskov”), took the fight with militants in the Argun gorge in 2000.
In the opening ceremony participated the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, the Governor of the Pskov region Andrey Turchak, the command of the airborne forces, relatives of dead Marines, and members of the regional government.
“Today we can proudly claim that they won the fight against international terrorism. And your children, fathers, brothers, together with the Chechen people defended the integrity of our country. It is the duty of everyone — not only the warrior but also of a citizen to defend the Homeland, protect the people,” — Kadyrov said.
In turn Turchak thanked Kadyrov for the installation of the monument.
“In 2015 we agreed on. And today we are present at this place. Thanks to everyone who helped to implement the will of our parents, and once again I want to remember all children who died here”, — said the head of the Pskov region.
Granite monument, weighing 10 tons and with a height of 2.6 meters installed on the field of battle — in the village of Ulus-Kert.
29 February 2000 the 6th company of the 76th guards airborne division engaged in battle with the greatly superior numbers of the detachment of Chechen fighters led by Khattab. During the battle, killing 84 paratroopers from 90, the militants were eliminated about 700 people.
Earlier it was reported that a member of a gang of Shamil Basayev and Khattab received a life sentence for the attack on the Marines in 2000.
