Matvienko was nominated honorary citizens of St. Petersburg

The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko was included in the list of candidates for the title of honorary citizen of St. Petersburg. This was announced by the Chairman of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly Vyacheslav Makarov, reports the Internet-the edition “Fontanka” on Thursday, March 2.

The candidacy of Matvienko nominated public organization “people of besieged Leningrad”. The Union of rectors of St. Petersburg, in turn, offered to confer the title of honorary citizen of the Northern capital the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill and the Russian Union of concert figures and social movement for the promotion of social development “Will of Petersburg” — the singer Edite Pieha.

For the honorary title also can compete, in particular, the Director Alexander Sokurov, choreographer Boris Eifman and mathematician mark Bashmakov.

The speaker of St. Petersburg legislative Assembly said that all the candidates are great people, however, emphasized Valentina Matviyenko, “the most famous woman in the world”, and the Patriarch, who “like millions of Orthodox”.

The Parliament of the city will choose two new honourable citizens of Northern capital before the city Day, celebrated on may 27.

The title of “honorary citizen of St. Petersburg” is awarded for contributions to culture, science and economy of the city. It can be obtained only by those who have lived in the Northern capital of not less than ten years. Last year, the title awarded to the General Director of the regional center of standardization, Metrology and testing Vladimir Okrepilov and head of the St. Petersburg academic Capella Vladislav Chernushenko.

Valentina Matvienko Governor of Saint-Petersburg from September 2003 to August 2011. In September 2011 he became Chairman of the Federation Council.
