The European Parliament and the Council the EU agreed to simplify the visa regime for Ukraine
Moscow. 28 Feb. INTERFAX.RU — MEPs and negotiators from the EU Council agreed to introduce a visa-free regime for short trips of Ukrainian citizens to the EU, announced in Brussels, the press service of the European Parliament (EP) on Tuesday evening.
“Ukrainian citizens will be able to travel to the EU without a visa as a result of informal agreement (Euro)by Parliament and Council negotiators on Tuesday,” — said in a communique EP. It notes that holding biometric passports Ukrainians will be able to come to the EU for up to 90 days within any 180-day period for the purposes of business, tourism or on family matters, when necessary legal acts will enter into force.
These agreements now must be approved by the European Parliament Committee on civil liberties, and then by the European Parliament as a whole, then the decision will formally adopt the EU Council.
In the message of the European Parliament recalls that before the agreement on visas to Ukraine, member States of the EU have revised the mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime to ensure its quick activation in case of need, and this updated mechanism was approved on 27 February the EU Council.
Legislative documents will be signed by the President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani and representatives of the Maltese presidency of the EU Council on Wednesday 1 March and will enter into force 20 days after will be published in the Official journal of the EU, said the press service of European Parliament.
The EU and Kiev started negotiations on visa liberalization in 2008. Visa-free regime will apply to all member States of the EU except Ireland and the United Kingdom. In the message of the EP specifically highlights that this mode does not provide the right to work in the European Union.
