The police of Smolensk opened a criminal case against a student born in 1998 for cruelty to animals. On Thursday, April 27, reported on the website of the regional Department of internal Affairs.
“At the end of March this year in one of the social networks there were pictures of a dying cat that his owner and her friend were accompanied by derisive captions,” reads the statement. It is also noted that netizens condemned the actions of the girls, and law enforcement officers initiated the inspection.
The police found that the student did not give his cat food and water. As a result, the pet died of “acute heart failure due to abdominal pain due to pathological changes in the body.”
The case was initiated under part 1 of article 245 of the Russian Criminal code “cruelty to animals”. The maximum punishment under this article envisages up to six months of imprisonment.
In 2016, the wide public resonance was received by business of two underage residents of Khabarovsk. In the period from June to August last year, they are in an unfinished house killed at least 15 animals and birds — dogs, cats, pigeons.
