The majority of Russians (63%) expressed agreement with the idea of burying Lenin’s body, last year the figure was 60%. These are the findings of a poll conducted by the Russian centre for public opinion studies (VTSIOM) published on the website of the organization.
“The majority (63%) generally agrees that this needs to be done, but 32% consider it necessary to implement it immediately, and 31% to wait some time until this issue will not affect those for whom Lenin roads”, – stated in the materials of the survey. One third of Russians (31%) propose to put “things as they are now.”
According to the survey, 39% consider the mausoleum to tourist sites and are indifferent, 18% – believe that the body of Lenin as the great leader, is on the right in the heart of the country. On the other hand, 38% of citizens believe that the presence of Lenin’s body on red square – it is wrong and unnatural.
“Russian society is not ready for radical decisions on the issue of reburial of Lenin’s body. The dominant point of view there, and it is not formed. The most viable option – maintaining the status quo, perhaps with reservations and conditions, but still the status quo,” – commented on the results of a survey practice leader for political analysis and consulting VTSIOM Mikhail Mamonov.
Poll “polls-Sputnik” was held on 9-10 March, it was attended by 1,200 people.
Deputies from fractions of LDPR and “United Russia” of 20 April was submitted to the state Duma a draft law on the reburial of the remains of the leader of October revolution Vladimir Lenin from the mausoleum on red square. It was sponsored by the liberal Democrats Ivan Sukharev, Vladimir Sysoev, Alexander Kurdyumov, and the United Russia Evgeny Marchenko, Alexander A. Kiselev, Vitaly Bakhmetyev. One of the authors of the bill Ivan Sukharev suggested that the mausoleum can be transferred and make the Lenin Museum, but “not in the heart of Russia”.
