Restrictions on activities of public organizations of the Crimean Tatars on the territory of Russia, said the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov. His words are quoted by the correspondent of”.ru” on Friday, April 21.
“There are different forms of extremism, extremist organizations, and, in fact, as elsewhere, in Russia as extremist manifestations should be prosecuted according to law, and all that is not forbidden, it is allowed — and public activity, political, and other — there is no problem”, — said Peskov. Thus he commented on the decision of the International court of justice, according to which Russia should allow the activities of the now-banned organization “the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people”.
On 19 April the international court of justice in the framework of the lawsuit Kiev against Moscow ruled in defense of the Crimean Tatars. In particular, Russia must allow the activities of the unrecognized Crimean Tatar Mejlis. The President of the court, Ronnie Abraham said that Moscow must meet its obligations in accordance with the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.
In late March, “the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people” has filed a complaint with the European court of human rights (ECHR) because of the inclusion in the list of extremist organizations and banned its activity in Russia.
Activities “the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people” was banned in Russia in April 2016 by the decision of the Supreme court of the Crimea. In the same year, leaders of the Mejlis, Refat Chubarov and Mustafa Dzhemilev declared in the international search.
