The speaker of the Parliament of Ingushetia Zelimkhan Yevloyev issued a proposal to impose a sentence of three years imprisonment for the kidnapping of brides. He instructed the relevant Committee of the national legislative Assembly to prepare a draft law for consideration at the Federal level, reports TASS.
According to the speaker, recently in Ingushetia and other North Caucasus regions, the cases of bride abduction, despite the efforts of authorities and public of the region of action.
Yevloyev added that the penal code does not take into account the whole of public danger of bride kidnapping. He noted that the current wording of article 126 of the criminal code (“Kidnapping”) exempts from criminal liability of the malefactor who has voluntarily freed a kidnapped if in his actions there was no crime.
12 April in Ingushetia after the abduction of 19-year-old girl with the purpose of marriage was a criminal case. According to investigators, the afternoon of 8 April, a group of at least five people broke into a home in the village of Kantyshevo and, using violence, kidnapped a local resident. The whereabouts of the girls is still not installed.
The tradition of bride kidnapping exists in many republics of the North Caucasus. In 2013, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, said that his country managed to get rid of this custom.
In 2013, the Council of elders of Ingushetia made a decision to penalize thieves brides of 200 thousand rubles, and their associates — to 100 thousand.
