Sergey Koshelev will leave the post of the head of Department of international military cooperation
As it became known””, in the near future the head of the Main Department of international military cooperation (GU MVS) of the defense Ministry Sergei Koshelev will retire. GU MVS — the Central body of military management of the armed forces, which is responsible for military-technical cooperation, in particular with NATO, the CIS and the CSTO. According to “Kommersant”, the decision about the successor of Mr. Koshelev is still not accepted — the post claimed at least three people.
About the impending resignation of Sergei Koshelev “b” told several sources close to the defense Ministry. According to them, the chief of the Department of MVS has already written the official report about resignation, citing health problems. “He is undergoing medical examination, and then will sign an order for his dismissal,” the interlocutors “Kommersant”. Mister Koshelev calls “Kommersant” yesterday did not answer. 60-year-old Sergei Koshelev was born in Moscow. In the 1970s he underwent military service in frontier troops of KGB of the USSR, and later graduated from the Institute of Asia and Africa of Lomonosov Moscow state University. Mr. Koshelev more than 30 years working in the Ministry of foreign economic relations of the USSR and the Russian foreign Ministry in various positions, both at headquarters and abroad (in 1988-1992, in India, between 1998 and 2003 — in Switzerland).
In 2008, he became Deputy Director of the Department for security Affairs and disarmament Ministry of foreign Affairs, where he participated in the development of international agreements in the field of security and disarmament. And in 2011, when Deputy defense Minister, Anatoly Antonov, President Vladimir Putin has appointed Mr. Koshelev chief GU MVS. As noted by the interlocutors “Kommersant”, the main task of the Department is the cooperation with armies of other countries, however, “Mr. Koshelev more into issues of disarmament, missile defense and Russian-American relations.”
Note that Mr. Antonov has left his post in 2016 and returned to the Ministry of foreign Affairs also for the post of Deputy Minister. According to Kommersant, Sergey Koshelev hoped that after returning to the foreign Ministry Anatoly Antonov will offer a job to him, but this did not happen.
Now fulfilling duties of the head of su armed forces major-General Alexander Klimovsky is one of the main candidates for the post of head of the Department. Mr. Klimowski-the participant of operations in Afghanistan, was the commander of a tank company, was twice wounded. In their reports on the position of Deputy chief GU MVS, he first paid a lot of attention to the role of the Ministry of defense in the development of military-technical cooperation with foreign States, and actively worked through the issues of coordination with the military of other countries.
Note that the General Klimowski — not the only candidate for the post of head of division: according to Kommersant, in addition it considered the option of appointing the first Deputy Director of Federal service for military-technical cooperation (FSMTC) Andrey Boytsov. The annual event is organized, in particular, GU MVS. According to “Kommersant”, inviting guests to the conference come with the signature of Mr. Klimovskaja.
