Haley was named one of the U.S. priorities shift, Syrian regime

US Ambassador to the UN added that regime change is not the only priority.

Moscow. April 9. INTERFAX.RU — the U.S. Permanent representative to the UN, Nikki Haley said that the change of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad remains a priority of the American administration.

“We do not see a peaceful Syria with Assad,” she told the TV channel CNN.

This statement was made after the missile attack on the United States air base, the Syrian Air force in HOMS province, the basis for which the US called that from the airfield of this base flew the planes that allegedly previously attacked with chemical weapons in Idlib province, which led to numerous casualties. The envoy added that regime change is not the only priority.

“There are several priorities. The removal of Assad is not the only one”, she explained. To others she attributed the defeat of ISIL (banned in the Russian terrorist group), the elimination of Iran’s influence in Syria and a political settlement.

Earlier, the Ambassador said that the removal of Assad is no longer a priority for U.S. policy in Syria. However, U.S. Secretary Rex Tillerson has stated that the main priority of U.S. policy toward Syria remains the fight against the terrorist group ISIS.

“We consider as the main priority of defeating ISIS,” he said in an interview to CBS.

The diplomat noted that after that we can consider the stabilization of the situation in Syria in General.

“If we can ensure a ceasefire in the areas of stabilization in Syria, then I believe it will be possible to start and be useful to the political process,” said Tillerson.
