Half of Russians consider it necessary to take retaliatory steps after the introduction of Ukraine sanctions against Russian banks, of which every fifth proposes to impose retaliatory sanctions, and every tenth — to negotiate with Kiev, it follows from the results of a survey of the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).
March 23, Ukraine has imposed sanctions against all five operating in Ukraine structures of the Russian state-owned banks: the Ukrainian Sberbank and VTB, “BM Bank” (“granddaughter” VTB), Prominvestbank (“daughter” VEB) and VS Bank (“grandchild” of the savings Bank). They banned any financial transactions in favour of related persons, in particular, the parent structures.
The majority of respondents VTSIOM Russians (54%) found it difficult to assume what they want to achieve the Kiev authorities to impose sanctions against Russian banks. A tenth of respondents (10%) believe that Kiev seeks to further strain relations with Moscow, say sociologists.
Slightly fewer Russians see the move as an attempt to harm Russia (this was said 8% of respondents), the desire to wage war (6%) or the desire to leave the money in the Ukraine (5%).
According to VTSIOM, half of our fellow citizens (50%) considers it necessary to take certain steps in response to the Ukraine. Among the possible measures, the respondents most often referred to as retaliatory sanctions (21% of those who consider it necessary to respond to this decision).
At the same time, every tenth (10%) among those who spoke about the need to respond, considers that they should be in talks with Kiev. Rarely there are proposals to bring the branches of Russian banks from Ukraine (5%), to close the border (3%), to stop the supply of gas (2%).
Every tenth Respondent (10%) found it difficult to Express an opinion about the need for a Russian response to the Ukrainian sanctions. Another 40% of Russians see no need to respond to Kiev’s decision. Often this position is held by young people aged 18-24 years (58%), respondents with incomplete secondary education (57%) and LDPR supporters (58%), sociologists said.

It is noteworthy that the negative assessment be clearly motivated, and hence sustainable. In other words, Russians are in favor of pragmatism and national interests and less and less believe in the sanity of the Ukrainian leadership”, — said the head of VCIOM research projects Mikhail Mamonov, commenting on the survey results.
A nationwide survey “polls-Sputnik” was held on 22-23 March 2017 among 1.2 thousand respondents; the interview method – telephone interviews. The statistical error does not exceed 3.5%.
