The former Prime Minister of Pakistan Sharif and his daughter are arrested at the airport upon arrival in the country
Moscow. July 13. INTERFAX.RU — Pakistani Police arrested former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison on charges of corruption, immediately after his return home. This was reported on Friday by Bloomberg.
According to the Agency, the former Prime Minister returned to the country with his daughter Maryam. Police arrested them at the International airport Lahore and confiscated passports.
Sharif and his daughter will be sent to prison in the district of Adiala near Islamabad, the Agency said.
A court in Pakistan in July sentenced in absentia former Prime Minister Sharif to 10 years in prison on charges of corruption related to the purchase of expensive apartments in London. The daughter of former Prime Minister sentenced to seven years in prison and a 2 million pound fine.
Sharif earlier asked to postpone the sentencing while he is in London with his wife, where she is being treated for cancer. During sentencing Sharif along with their children, was in London.
The investigation against Sharif began after the controversial publication “the Panama archive”. The documents said that few children of Sharif were associated with offshore companies that were allegedly used to divert funds and buy foreign assets, particularly expensive apartments in the fashionable London street Park lane.
In July 2017 Sharif was dismissed by the Supreme court of the country from the position of Prime Minister of Pakistan.
