TASS, may 13. As a result of explosions at two Christian churches in the second largest city in Indonesia, Surabaya, nine people were killed and more than 40 were injured. This was reported to journalists on Sunday by the head of Department on public relations of the police of the province of East Java Colonel Frans Barunga, reports the Straits Times.
Earlier, news portal Detik has reported four killed.
According to Barunga, “explosive devices were detonated by suicide bombers, who were on cars and motorcycles.” About one of the churches, the police managed to defuse another bomb planted in the car. The representative of law enforcement said that police managed to prevent another terrorist attack about a third of the Church.
Previously, the Barunga noted that among the injured two police officers.
The official representative of the anti-terrorist unit, Babe, Purwanto, in turn, told reporters that “the attack is the local terrorist group”. He also did not rule out that the attacks are connected with the recent riots in a special prison designed for the detention of suspects and accused of committing terrorist attacks in Depok (West Java province), where a few days ago, a riot broke out prisoners extremists.
