One of the biggest diamonds sold in new York for $6.5 million
MOSCOW, 5 Dec — RIA Novosti. One of the largest diamonds in the world weighing in at 709 carats, discovered in March 2017 in Sierra Leone, sold on Monday for $ 6.5 million at auction in new York, according to the publication Africa News.
The diamond found in Kono district in the East of the country. It’s the largest diamond in the history of the state and 14th in size stone ever found in the world.
According to the portal Inquirer.net the diamond was purchased by British jeweler Laurence Graff. Who discovered the rock group handed him over to the authorities of their country in the hope that the money from the sale will go to the improvement of Sierra Leone.
