The Russian foreign Ministry also demanded explanations in connection with the incident, the immediate lifting of charges and release of the citizen of Russia.

The Ministry said that the detainee — the employee of office of the Council of the Federation, who visited Norway at the invitation of the European centre for parliamentary research and documentation for participation in the international seminar. The foreign Ministry added that the seminar was attended by representatives of parliaments of other countries.

“It is unclear why the fact of presence at the seminar of the Russian representative led to this provocation. One gets the impression that the wave campaign “spy” against Russia, including imposing from the outside, acquires in Norway odious forms. Of course, such steps will not remain without consequences,” — said the Minister.

The Ministry also noted that the consular section of the Russian Embassy in Norway has detained all possible assistance.
