The Embassy of Russia has demanded from the USA of explanations after the detention of the Russians
WASHINGTON, Aug 7 — RIA Novosti. The Russian Embassy in the United States is closely monitoring the situation around the detention of FBI Russian citizens and appealed to the state Department for clarification, the statement of the press service of the Embassy.
“He appealed to the state Department for clarification on this fact. Requested information on the whereabouts of the arrested. Are working to establish direct contact with detainees to ensure respect for their legal rights. If necessary, provide them with consular assistance,” — said in the message.
Earlier, the U.S. justice Department in response to a request from RIA Novosti to tell the names of the detained Russians said that in the case of major fraud arrested five people: Maxim Severin, Stanislav Lissitzky, Alexey Livadny, Nikolay Tupikin and Cyril Deduces.
In late July, the U.S. justice Department said that 25 people, including seven Russians, accused of major fraud in the sale of cars.
According to prosecutors of the southern district of new York, the criminal group was composed of seven citizens of Russia and five citizens of Georgia and four citizens of Azerbaijan, three — Kazakhstan, two immigrants from Latvia, two Ukrainian citizens; it is also among the accused there are people with citizenship of USA and Turkey.
The indictment suggests that the defendants placed false ads about selling cars, and then received from the victims of the Deposit and disappeared. To this end, they created a series of shell companies. The damage to consumers amounted to around 4.5 million U.S. dollars.
Each of the defendants is charged with conspiracy to commit fraud — it could face up to 30 years in prison — as well as conspiracy to commit money laundering and could be sentenced to 20 years.
