In the United States created the world’s most powerful supercomputer, Summit
MOSCOW, 9 Aug — RIA Novosti. Engineers of the national laboratory under the U.S. Department of energy announced the creation of the world’s most powerful supercomputer, according to the MIT Technology Review.
According to the publication, the performance of American cars Summit is up to 200 petaflops — 200 million billion operations per second.
“For comparison, everyone on Earth needs to perform the operation every second for 305 days to cope with what the new machine can do in the blink of an eye”, — writes the edition.
The stated performance Summit twice developed in China supercomputer Sunway TaihuLight (93 petaflops), which was previously considered the most powerful device in the world.
Scientists intend to use the new supercomputer, in particular, to search for possible links between genes and cancer, as well as between the occurrence of dependency on narcotic substances. The device can also help in climate modeling, which will increase the efficiency of the forecast, the report said.
As notes the edition, around the world supercomputers are used for research and development of new weapons.
“If the most powerful (supercomputer) in the United States, us researchers and the country’s armed forces will have the additional benefit”, — writes the edition.
