The Spanish government issued a vote of no confidence

Moscow. June 1. INTERFAX.RU the Vote took place amid a corruption scandal involving the party of the Prime Minister.

The Congress of deputies of Spain on Friday passed a vote of no confidence in the government, Mariano Rajoy. Confidence in the Cabinet of Rajoy expressed by 180 parliamentarians, 169 voted against, one Deputy abstained. Therefore, the ability to form a new government of Spain will have a socialist Pedro Sanchez.

Rajoy, speaking in Parliament ahead of the vote, actually admitted defeat.

Chairman sánchez (Pedro sánchez, the socialist leader). As a Democrat, I accept the decision of Parliament. I was honored to preside over the government and leave Spain better than the one I took. Let me forgive those who feels offended. Thank you all.Mariano Rhoemer-Minister of Spain

Last week, a Spanish court under the anti-corruption case “gürtel” has recognized dozens of individuals associated with the people’s party Rajoy, convicted of fraud, tax evasion and money laundering. The court also ordered the people’s party to pay a fine in the amount of 245 thousand euros. It was then that the socialists sent to Congress for a proposal to censure the Prime Minister.

Himself Rajoy declared yesterday that a possible vote of no confidence is not due to the “gürtel”, and with the ambition of Sanchez. “Excuse all that is not the decision of the court, you are not Champions of good faith… All of it speaks only about the ambitions of Mr. Sanchez,” said Rajoy.

The investigation into the corruption scandal, which became known as the “gürtel case”, began about ten years ago. We are talking about the investigation of corruption of former functionaries of the people’s party, who hold important positions in the municipalities, entered into contracts with firms in exchange for kickbacks.

The main defendant in the case, businessman Francisco Correa, the investigation was called by its name (in Spanish correa — belt Gurtel — belt in German). The Spanish Supreme court on may 24, 2018 in the case sentenced Correa to 51 years in prison.
