Merkel: “Nord stream — 2” is not a threat to energy security
German Chancellor Angela Merkel meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki said that he sees no threat to the diversification of energy supplies to Europe in the implementation of the project “Northern stream — 2”. It has been broadcast on the website of the German government.
The Polish Prime Minister noted that he did not agree with this approach, and pointed out the threats that will entail the removal of Ukraine from the transit. According to him, “Nord stream — 2” shall conform to the requirements of the Third energy package and the EU gas Directive.
The commissioning of the “Nord stream — 2” is scheduled for the end of 2019. The pipeline must pass under the Baltic sea from the Russian coast to coast of Germany. The capacity of each of two strings is 27.5 billion cubic meters a year. The new pipeline will double the power of the first Nord stream route which in the ground and repeat.
