In Thailand came into force a ban on Smoking on beaches

BANGKOK, 1 February. /TASS./ The Smoking ban on the most popular beaches among tourists began operating in Thailand since February 1. Its violation is punishable by a fine or imprisonment.

As reported in the Department of marine and coastal resources of the Kingdom, Smoking free announced 24 beach in 15 provinces of the Kingdom. Among them were popular places on the island of Phuket, in the resort cities of Pattaya, Hua hin etc.

For violating the ban faces a penalty of a fine in the amount up to 100 thousand baht (more than $3 million), which may be followed by deprivation of liberty for a term up to one year.

“Before you go to the beach, smokers must extinguish a cigarette. Smoking is strictly prohibited”, — reminded the journalists the head of one of regional divisions of the Department of marine and coastal resources Banderak Serdang. As the official explained, even a walk with a lit cigarette will amount to violation of the rules.

Warning signs on the beaches, caught in a restricted area was established, as a rule, several months before the commencement of the limitations. There is also a special designated Smoking area — a small glass pavilions with hood. For example, along Patong beach in Phuket appeared six such booths.
