“I made the decision that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital. Israel is a sovereign state entitled to decide on the location of private capital”, — said the American leader. He also instructed the state Department to begin work to transfer the U.S. Embassy from tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
The US President called the recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital “is absolutely the right thing”.
About trump’s decision became known on December 2. During the election campaign, trump promised to move the American Embassy from tel Aviv to Jerusalem. In January it was reported that the parties began negotiations on the issue.
Israel proclaimed Jerusalem as its capital after the War for independence in 1949.
