In the procession from St. Isaac’s Cathedral will be attended by about three thousand children
St. PETERSBURG, April 9 — RIA Novosti. About 3 thousand children will take part in the procession from St. Isaac’s Cathedral in St. Petersburg in celebration of the Lord’s Entrance into Jerusalem, the press service of the St. Petersburg Metropolitanate.
“At 9:45 in St. Isaac’s Cathedral will be made “children” of the divine Liturgy with a procession. In the Liturgy and the procession will take part about 3 thousand children, students of Orthodox gymnasiums and Sunday schools. The Liturgy will be headed by the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Varsonofy, assisted by the sacristan of St. Isaac’s Cathedral Archpriest Alexei Isaev and clergy of the diocese of St. Petersburg”, — stated in the message.
The situation around St. Isaac’s Cathedral caused a public outcry when the authorities of St. Petersburg decided to transfer the Cathedral for 49 years, the Russian Orthodox Church in the free use with preserving the Museum and educational functions. Remains and legal status of the object — its owner is the city.
The public is concerned about the fate of Isaac, despite the statement of representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Museum functions will be expanded, and the entrance to the Cathedral will be free.
Later, the city electoral Commission approved the registration of the initiative group for holding a referendum on the fate of the Cathedral.
