Norway will build the world’s first shipping tunnel
Norway will build the world’s first tunnel for ships. It will be called Stad Ship Tunnel, and its length is 1.7 kilometers. This is the website of the Norwegian coastal administration.
The tunnel will pass from the port of Molde Fjord to the village of Selje in the County of Sogn og Fjordane. The height of the Stad Ship Tunnel will be 49 meters and a width of 36 meters. The project officially included in the program of development of national transport system in 2018-2029 years.

The cost of building the tunnel is estimated at 2.7 billion Norwegian kroner (approximately U.S. $ 314 million), the work will take 3-4 years. Builders have to blow up and move about 8 million tons of rock.
