About 20 kilometers from Amsterdam, is a wonderful village of Zaanse Schans, which is also the Museum under the open sky.

It was built in 1961 in order to preserve the cultural heritage of the region of Zaanstad, and therefore repeats the style of the settlements of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Now, Zaanse Schans is one of the most visited places in the Netherlands. Here are six windmills (they all have names and inside them you can go) and 35 houses.

Half of the buildings are houses and the rest are museums, shops and workshops. The locals mostly wear traditional dress and work in the tourism sector, conduct workshops, prepare and serve the guests.
