Discovered the ancient long-necked dinosaurs

Archaeologists have unearthed in Brazil three well-preserved skeleton of a dinosaur that appeared to belong to a new, previously unknown species. It is noted that it is the most ancient discovered long-necked dinosaur.

The new species was named Macrocollum itaquii. Individuals of this species was a herbivorous 1.5 meter high animal with a long neck weighing about 90 pounds. Moreover, as scholars have noted, it is the oldest known long necks sauropodomorphs. Found Macrocollum itaquii lived on Earth about 225 million years ago, during the Triassic period.

Researchers believe that the findings will help learn more about sauropods and their ancestors — will allow a better understanding of how the sauropods such as Brontosaurus and Diplodocus, have become so large: approximately ten times longer Macrocollum itaquii. It is noted that, becoming larger, the sauropods eventually moved away from walking on two legs — began to walk on four (to maintain a larger body size and greater weight).

As LiveScience writes, a new discovery was made due to the fact that the paleontologist Rodrigo Mueller (Müller Rodrigo) called my mother and reported on the fossils, discovered by his uncle in the rural area of Agudo, southern Brazil. Six years later, and long excavations, scientists finally presented the results of work.

The study was published in the journal Biology Letters.
