The us administration is preparing to declare Venezuela a state sponsor of terrorism, putting it alongside such countries as Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. This was announced on Monday, the Washington Post, citing sources in the U.S. government.

The newspaper gave no details as to when may be declared on the appropriate step and what action may follow. The newspaper’s sources refused to confirm that the decision to include Venezuela in the list was finally accepted, but they explained that in recent days the state Department has requested a response to the potential step from various government agencies. The foreign Ministry did not comment on these data.

The inclusion of any country as compiled by the us state Department list of sponsors of terrorism provides a basis for the Finance Ministry to take punitive measures against those legal entities and individuals as well as States that trade with this country.

The ban covers in particular the supply of arms and dual-use goods, any banking transactions.

The us administration has repeatedly imposed sanctions against Venezuela. On the most recent package of restrictions against Caracas, the U.S. Treasury announced on September 25. Then, in the black lists were the wife of the head of state Nicolas Maduro and Celia Flores, Vice-President, Minister of defense Vladimir Padrino Lopez, the Minister of communication and information Jorge Rodriguez and Executive Vice President DELSY Rodriguez.

In recent years, Venezuela is going through an acute socio-economic crisis, accompanied by hyperinflation, devaluation of the national currency and a shortage of essential commodities and medicines. The difficult situation has forced many citizens to leave the country. According to the UN, by June of the Bolivarian Republic left about 2.3 million people, mostly in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Brazil.
