The US state Department revealed details of the new sanctions against Russia
The new restrictions impose a ban on arms sales and foreign aid.

The US state Department published a notice of intention to impose sanctions against Russia because of the poisoning in Britain of former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia. The notification published in the official journal of the U.S. government (Federal Register). According to the document, the sanctions will come into force on 27 August and will last for at least a year or until further notice.
According to the document, the sanctions include a ban on providing Russia external assistance, except in urgent humanitarian aid and food supplies.
The ban also covered the sale of weapons of Russia, any defense products, as well as the financing of such transactions, all foreign loans of Russia. In addition, a ban on the export of goods, services and technologies that can help in the production or use of chemical and biological weapons.
The intention to introduce new sanctions the US state Department announced on 8 August. The Department reported that it had prepared an appropriate definition in accordance with the Convention on the prohibition of chemical and biological weapons in 1991 According to Washington, the Russian authorities in violation of international law used chemical or biological weapons, including against Russian citizens.
The definition of sanctions was signed by the US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo on August 6, NBC television reported, citing sources. The sanctions came into force from the moment such notification must undergo 15 days and shall publish the relevant decision in the official journal of the U.S. government (Federal Register). Press Secretary of the U.S. Department of state Heather Nauert previously said that the new restrictions will take effect on August 22 or “around that date”.
