DPRK delegation refused to meet with the Vice President of the United States in Pyeongchang
Representatives of North Korea have expressed dissatisfaction with the announcement of new sanctions.
Moscow. 21 Feb. INTERFAX.RU — During the Olympic games in Pyeongchang has been scheduled a “secret meeting” Vice-President Mike Pence sister of North Korean leader Kim E Chen, which is “last-minute” cancelled at the initiative of the DPRK, the newspaper the Washington Post, citing the office of Pensions.
“On Saturday, February 10, less than two hours before M. Pence and his team were going to meet with the younger sister of North Korean leader Kim E and Chan (Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme people’s Assembly of the DPRK) Kim Yong-Nam, the North Koreans refused to participate in the planned meeting,” the message reads.
As noted by the office of the Vice President, “the North Koreans at the cancellation of the meeting expressed dissatisfaction with the Pence announcement of new sanctions and his meeting with North Korean defectors”.
According to White house officials, the President of the United States Donald trump and Mike Pence “was considered by the meeting as a continuation of the campaign of the administration to give maximum pressure on the DPRK.”
“Negotiations between M. Pence and the North Koreans, if they occurred, did not expect, in itself, softening the lines of the administration toward North Korea,” said a senior White house official.
