Auschwitz broke the record for number of visitors

The Museum, located on the territory of the former Nazi camp Auschwitz (or Auschwitz), in the 2017th set a record attendance. It was visited by 2.2 million people from around the world, which is 50 thousand more than last year, reports Deutsche Welle.

Of these, nearly half a million poles, 339 thousand Americans, 183 thousands of Britons and 85 thousand Germans. It is noted that the sharply increased number of visitors from Ukraine, Canada and Greece: 50%, 36 and 32 percent, respectively.

Until 2001, the Museum of the concentration camp was visited at least half a million people.

Auschwitz concentration camp located 60 kilometers from Krakow. Considered the largest and most long existed a Nazi death camp, one of the main symbols of the Holocaust. According to various estimates, in Auschwitz, were killed about 1.4 million people, more than a million of them were Jews. In 1947 in the former camp, a Museum was opened.
