Putin instructed to monitor foreign interference in elections via the Internet

The President of Russia Vladimir Putin at a meeting with the leadership of the chambers of the Federal Assembly on Monday reiterated that the Internet should remain free, however the activities of foreign companies in the Internet and social networks you need to follow in an election year.

“Remember how much noise was about the fact, Russia Today and Sputnik had advertising time in the US? The noise was — but it turned out the minimum amount, hundredths of a percent! And we have that? How many of us present here?” — said the President. “I’m not saying that we should make hasty decisions. It is not now, not before the election to do. We have to see what happens to perform, and then clear picture of the situation to make a decision”, — Putin said. He, however, did not rule out that special solutions may not be necessary.

So the President responded to a request from the Chairman of the Committee on constitutional legislation of the Federation Council Andrei Klishas proposed to support him and his colleagues the amendments to the law on foreign agents, toughening the requirements to the media-foreign agents. Putin proposed to “closely watch” the law does not remove the “rough edges”.
