Russia and Egypt have agreed to resume regular flights
After a two year hiatus Russia and Egypt have finally agreed on the resumption of regular flights between the two capitals. Flights can begin in February. The resumption of flights on the Egyptian resorts of the task 2018.
On Friday, December 15, in Moscow, the Minister of transport of Russia Maxim Sokolov and the Minister of civil aviation of Egypt Sherif Fathi signed an intergovernmental Protocol on cooperation in the sphere of ensuring the safety of civil aviation, which will enter into force 30 days, reported the press service of the Russian side.
The document allows to start all the necessary bilateral actions to resume flights.
“This is the first step towards the resumption of air traffic between the two countries, which will, quite possibly, to start operations to Cairo in February next year,” said Sokolov, who describes in a press release.
Resume message was preceded by the visit of President Vladimir Putin to Egypt on 11 December. “The Egyptian side has done a lot of work to improve the level of security at airports. The security service of Russia reported to me that in General we are ready for the opening of direct flights between Moscow and Cairo,” said Putin after a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Regular flights between the two countries have conducted national carriers — Aeroflot and EgyptAir.
As reported in Friday Sokolov, “Aeroflot” has already begun preparation of documents for the resumption of flights to Cairo. “I have personally talked to the General Director “Aeroflot” Vitaly Savelyev, he said. — We have a series of contacts with ground handling organisations, fuel-filling complexes, to resume the mission. This work is already underway,” — said the Minister in interview to TV channel “Russia 24”.
