The state Department has accused Russia of shelling civilians in Ukraine
WASHINGTON, 13 Dec — RIA Novosti. The state Department on Wednesday accused Russia of shelling the civilian population in Ukraine.
“We again urge Russia to stop missile and artillery attacks on the Ukrainian civilian population”, — told reporters the official representative of the state Department Heather Nauert. She gave evidence of Russia’s involvement in the events in Eastern Ukraine, which Moscow denies.
According to her, the United States is deeply concerned “about the continuing attacks on the civilian infrastructure in the Donetsk region”. It also demanded the militia to retreat from their positions near the water treatment plant near Donetsk and accused them of shelling the station.
“The treatment plant and the power substation to provide drinking water, electricity and Central heating to the population, about 345 thousand people. It is impossible to imagine that someone is threatening the supply of water and Central heating in the dead of winter. Russian-backed forces must immediately move from their new positions around the water treatment plant,” said Nauert.
Also, she said, the humanitarian situation in the East is worse now than ever.
Russia earlier rejected US charges of meddling in the conflict in Eastern Ukraine and stated that it is interested in its resolution.
