Alexander Zhukov
The international Olympic Committee (IOC) has suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and its head Alexander Zhukov. This was reported on the website of the organization.
The decision was taken at the Executive Committee meeting in Lausanne (Switzerland). The suspension is due to the relationship with the state system of concealment of positive doping tests. Also, the IOC ordered the ROC to reimburse the costs of the investigation and to contribute $ 15 million in the establishment of an independent system test.
The IOC is considering the possibility of partial or complete recovery of the ROC to the closing ceremony of the Olympic games in 2018. The Russian side is necessary to “fulfill all their proposed conditions.”
The Committee suspended for life Deputy Prime Minister Vitaliy Mutko from participation in the Olympic games. The same penalties apply to the former Deputy Minister of sports Yuri Nagornykh.
Previously, the Executive Committee of the IOC decided that the Olympics in Pyeongchang will be able to speak only the Russians who have proven their innocence to doping fraud. They will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag. Other athletes disqualified.
The decision was made based on the findings of two commissions: Denis Oswald and Samuel Schmidt. The first dealt double-check the doping tests of participants of the Olympic games in Sochi, the second investigated the involvement of the employees of the Ministry of sports of Russia for a possible concealment of positive doping tests.
Olympic winter games in Pyeongchang will be held from 9 to 25 February 2018.
