The Austrian constitutional court adopted a decision according to which from the beginning of 2019 in the country to officially allow same-sex marriage. The document is published on the Agency’s website.
The case was based on the complaint of two women living in a registered partnership. They applied for a marriage, however, the municipal Council in Vienna, and then the Austrian administrative court of capital has refused the conclusion of this Union.
Under current Austrian law, same-sex couples could enter into a legal partnership, but not in a formal marriage as a heterosexual. The court ruled that this law discriminare the principle of equality.
If, after 31 December 2018, the Austrian Parliament will not amend the decision of the court, couples will be able to conclude the kind of marriage that suits them: normal or registered partnership.
1 October in Germany it was registered the first same-sex marriage. Testimony of the Alliance in the town hall of Berlin’s schöneberg district received a 60-year-old Bodo Mende and 59-year-old Carl Krayl. This event became possible after the entry into the country in virtue of law on “marriage for all”.
Two months earlier the German Parliament by a majority of votes approved a law on the legalization of gay marriage.
