The inhabitants of the polar region met the first in many months, dawn
The inhabitants of the Arctic for the first time in a month and a half saw the sun over the polar night. The shining light appeared in the sky for a few minutes. Northerners celebrated this day as a holiday. In Murmansk to celebrate the first dawn was prevented by clouds, but the locals that doesn’t upset: they are still traditionally gathered on the hill Sunny hill and celebrated the event.

I saw the long-awaited dawn in the other polar cities — in a report from the social networks.
The polar night in most Northern cities begins in late November or early December and lasts until mid-January. In the Murmansk region saw the sun rise a little earlier than in others, January 11.

The sun didn’t rise above the horizon from 2 December to 11 January. • Participants of the action “the First dawn” gathered on the highest point near Murmansk – the hill “Sunny hill”. Action “First dawn” takes place in Murmansk for many years. This year she has collected more than a thousand people. Some came with a special technique, others observed the sun with the naked eye. The weather forecast for the Arctic was quite warm, only minus 4 degrees, while on the hill the wind was blowing. Freezing them is not given, they were really happy. The day length was only 14 minutes.

Residents of other cities a bit more luck — they still saw the sun. Or almost saw. Polar night said goodbye Norilsk, Monchegorsk, Dudinka, Igarka, Bilibino Vorkuta.

All polar cities are already pretty light, as most of the polar night are the polar twilight. In Norilsk the first rays of the sun will see only at the end of January — this is due to features of the landscape. While residents can only admire the colors of dawn.
