The Russian was suspected of committing the first robbery on Svalbard
New details have become known about the robbery of the Bank on Svalbard. In the crime suspect 29-year-old Russian, said on Saturday, December 22, “RIA Novosti” with reference to the website of the Governor of the archipelago.
“A citizen of Russia, who was in Svalbard as a tourist, came to the Bank on Friday (21 Dec. — Ed.) about 10:40 a.m. and demanded 70 thousand kroons (500 thousand rubles. — Ed.)”, — stated in the message.
It is noted that the man was with a gun, rented on a legal basis in Longyearbyen.
On the eve of December 21, it was reported about detention of the unknown, who committed the first robbery on the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard. Then it became known that the attacker was a foreigner and had a weapon.
Currently, the stolen money returned to the Bank, and the man was arrested and taken to Tromso. The court decided to remand for four weeks.
The archipelago of Svalbard located in the Arctic ocean and is the northernmost part of Norway. It is famous for its glaciers and polar bears, whose numbers exceed the human population. In Longyearbyen, home to about 2 thousand people, almost all of them are well know each other.
