Another planet: looks like one of the most unusual places of Russia (photo)
Hardly anyone expects to see such landscapes.
On Earth there are a huge number of wonders and phenomena of nature, that resemble images from other planets. In Russia such “alien” landscapes also abound.
Absolutely fascinating spectacle awaits guests of the Pechora-Ilych nature reserve in Troitsko-Pechorsky district of the Komi Republic. Here on the plateau of Manpupuner is one of the natural wonders of Russia — huge stone pillars, also known as the pillars of weathering.

Seven huge stone blocks with a height of 30 to 42 metres was formed at selective weathering and washing away the soft rock. First and largest post until the next distance is 1 kilometer.

Once this place was sacred to the Mansi people. The name of the Manpupuner is translated from the Mansi language “Small mount of idols”, and come here only shamans, as it was believed that in this place inhabited by spirits.

In recent years, the popularity of Manpupuner started to grow, and, in spite of the inaccessibility of this place, here began to gather tourists. However, for the nature conservation reserve management decided to introduce a limit on the number of visitors.
