LONDON, November 21. /TASS/. British actor Hugh Laurie became a knight of the order of the British Empire, the 3rd degree, said on Wednesday the press service of the British Royal family on Twitter.

The ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace, it was attended by the heir to the British throne — Prince Charles of Wales.

The order of the British Empire was instituted in 1917 by king George V, who is the grandfather of the current Queen Elizabeth II. The award consists of five degrees awarded for outstanding personal and professional achievements, volunteer activities and efforts to improve the reputation of the country.

59-year-old Laurie gained fame in Britain thanks to roles in the British Comedy television series “Blackadder, bit of fry and Laurie” and “Jeeves and Wooster”. Global recognition the actor has achieved, performing the role of a brilliant misanthrope Dr. Gregory house in the American television series “house MD”.
